Proactive Securities was formed when three friends noticed a lack of training for the citizen worker in the area of active shooter/armed intruder incidents. We realized that our family members, who work in various career fields, had no idea how to respond if an active shooter entered their workplace. We felt that with our training and experience we could help those who may one day find themselves in an active shooter/armed intruder situation. The training we provide is designed to improve their chance of surviving an active shooter attack. Then, they can do the most important thing at the end of their work day… GO HOME ALIVE!

BIO

Thomas Reed is a Trainer and Consultant for Proactive Securities. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1989 to 1992. In October of 1992, he entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey, PA. Thomas dedicated 22 years to the Pennsylvania State Police before he retired in July 2014. Throughout the course of his law enforcement career he has held numerous supervisory and training positions. Thomas was a ten year member of a specialized emergency response team. His supervisory assignments while on the team consisted of assistant coordinator and team leader. Team members were responsible for responding to active shooter incidents, handling high risk warrant services, hostage situations, and barricade gunmen incident resolutions. As the team’s tactical commander he was responsible for handling a multitude of incidents ranging from security details for the President of the United States, site security assessments, active shooter instruction and scenario training for individuals from different agencies within the United States.

Thomas has received extensive training on active shooter recognition and response. He acquired specialized training and certification from the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) as an Active Shooter Instructor. He also attended SWAT Supervision and Command Decision Making Training. He has received training from New Mexico Tech in Identifying and Responding to Terrorist Bombing. He is a certified firearms instructor. He has been the lead instructor for workshops and training offered by the Pennsylvania State Police, FBI, NTOA, and Pennsylvania Tactical Officers Association.

Thomas is also a family man. He has four children; three daughters and a son. Family time is very important to him. He knows that family is the reason we work but more importantly he knows that coming home to family at the end of the work day is the best part of the day.
